Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year
We will be working hard this year, but will also be having some fun along the way. My goal is to support students and help them be successful during their year at RMS. Being successful includes, but is not limited to, having accommodations when needed, using accommodations provided, self-advocating, and being willing to put time and effort into assignments/activities. During class, we will be assessing effort and growth, as well as setting goals together.
Our classroom is a place for working hard, taking chances, and expanding skills. Learning new skills can be uncomfortable at first. We will work on it as a team. Everyone won't always have the right answer the first time, and that is okay. We will learn through practice, listening to each other, and taking risks to stretch ourselves academically.
I can be reached via email at [email protected] or via telephone at 630-937-8765.

Grades, Independent Practice, and Assessments in ela
Reading Literature/Non-fiction Texts = 40%
Writing = 30%
Vocabulary = 20%
Speaking and Listening = 10%
Independent Practice:
Independent practice is expected to be completed on time unless there are extenuating circumstances. Reading and writing requires practice just like other activities such as playing an instrument, participating in a sport, or mastering a video game. These assignments are necessary to be prepared for the classroom activities and discussions.
If students are absent, they will be given one day for every day they were absent to turn in missed assignments.
Assessments:
Assessments can be re-taken within the time frame of that unit. Students who choose to re-take an assessment must show what they have done to re-mediate the skills and prepare for the re-take. Class time cannot be used to re-take assessments. Benchmark and summative assessments cannot be re-taken. These are grade level, final assessments that all eighth grade students take.
